Honey Garlic Chicken Wings

I have been eating pretty healthy the past few weeks so the other day I wanted a little treat. Thinking about what I wanted for my ‘cheat meal’ chicken wings came to mind. I didn’t want what I would typically have like, a jerk or BBQ sauce and that’s where honey garlic comes in.

I looked for a few recipes online and came up with this sauce from what I had available at home, and I have to say it was amazingly delicious. My mouth is watering just writing this post.

Now you know I don’t measure so for those of you that do here is one of my inspirations rockrecipes.com.

So let’s talk about the base and getting the wings crispy, I lightly dust the wings in some flour, salt, pepper and a dash of Cajun spice. I fry them till golden brown in vegetable oil and let them rest on some kitchen paper.

Now its time to work for that sauce, I started with this dumpling sauce as I didn’t have soy sauce or sesame oil on its own this was the next best thing.

Next comes the honey, I used quite a bit around half a cup or just a bit more as I really wanted that honey taste. With everything else added to it didn’t turn out overly sweet but still had that honey flavour, also as I do love a hit of heat I added some crushed chillies.

Add all of this to a non-stick pan, please make sure its non-stick as this sauce gets very sticky and when cooled it will mash up ya pan. On a low heat start cooking down the sauce till it gets thick.

Once the sauce starts to thicken after 15 minutes or so, I added 1tp of red wine vinegar and 5 cloves of minced garlic.

Cook it for a further 5-10 minutes just till the kitchen feels with that heavenly scent of honey and garlic. Then I added a bit of dried parsley just to finish it off.

As you can see the sauce has reduce to a syrup like texture now while everything is still hot toss the sauce with the fried chicken wings in a bowl.

And that’s it its ready to serve, trust me when I say it was sweet, sticky, garlicy and juicy. This is how I want my wings from now on I cannot praise this recipe enough just please try it.
