Boa Vista, Cape Verde

Firstly I want to apologize for taking so long to write this post, but after I came back from holiday I caught a bad cold and I just have recovered from it. So here is a post about how amazing my holiday was and completely bosting about it… only joking I want to share my experience of this truly unique island.

Boa Vista is one of 10 islands that make Cape Verde, off the west coast of Africa. As one of the 3 islands closets to the coast, Boa Vista has a dessert like a terrain with temperatures rarely dipping past 30c.

Once we landed we hopped on the coach to our hotel, as the island is still developing the roads are not fully done so most of the journey is bumpy but that’s the fun part. Driving past mountains and red grounds you feel like you have just landed on Mars.

We stayed at the RUI Touareg which is South of the island near Curral Velho and is about 30+ minutes away from the airport. When you’re driving up to the hotel you can see it from a few meters away, it literally looks like a sand castle and it’s huge!

We stayed in the adults only section so we had a separate, pool, bar, gourmet restaurant and our own beach area. But the best part we had a mini bar in the room stocked with soft drinks and spirits.

When it comes to the hotel I have no real complaints, its super clean, friendly staff great atmosphere and evening shows every night.
My only hang up is that they don’t use enough local produce. Everything in the hotel is imported and when you do the tours and you try the local food, drinks, coffee, and wine I just don’t understand why you cant get this in the hotel.

In regards to the tours, I suggest doing the north, south and capital tour to fully see the island and get to the fundamentals. You get to visit many of the small towns, meet the locals and see how they really live struggles and all.

The island is also known for their turtles with the season being around September to November. If you go during this time you can go turtle watching, I personally didn’t do this tour cause I believe disturbing the animals at a time so crucial as breeding is wrong.

As I went with my boyfriend there are plenty of romantic things you can do. We did an adults-only afternoon boat cruise. Champagne was flowing, music was playing just chilling off the west coast of the island. Defiantly one of my favourite afternoons.
Another great romantic trip you could do is the sunset dinner on the beach, this comes with a band and a fire show. But the most important part is the LOBSTER!! I had heard that Boa Vista has the best lobster and like I said before you cant get it at the hotel. So when I finally got to try it… it was like angels and lifted it out of the water and grilled it especially for me.

This post was just a quick run through of my time away if you have any more question fell free to contact me on my socials or comment down below.
